When Jeremy was down last time, we went on a wine excursion and as an impulse buy, we picked up a 2004 Sangiovese from Luna Vineyards in Napa Valley. I had this the other night and really enjoyed the flavor. I'm a sucker for the Sangiovese grape. It tastes like home. When the wine was sold to me (again, impulse buy), I was under the impression that it was an Italian. I didn't even look at the bottle; I simply heard "Sangiovese" and bought. The instant I took a sip, I knew it was California. It has the forward fruit flavor and a boldness that only comes from California wines. While it didn't sport the home-like taste of an Italian, I wasn't disappointed and may try to make an excursion back to the wine store this weekend for more.
